I’m pretty impressed with these. Previous brands and types have left me kind of meh, but these chop up nice and sauté beautifully. They are a must have when I make sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast. Not too spicy. I keep thinking I am going to make vegan English muffins and have a breakfast sandwich but that is still on the todo list.  I expect them to be perfect there too.

Color me stunned on this flavor. I don’t eat a lot of this kind of stuff but a 70 year old non-vegan friend (dating a vegan) turned me into these.  I think they nailed the sausage flavor!  We make a lot of Ho-made pizza (because we are good ho’s of the maker variety) and this made the most excellent sausage and mushroom pizza ever. I can’t wait to try it with non-vegan friends.

Confession:  I’ve never been a milk drinker, even pre-Vegan. For me it’s just another ingredient. My husband, however, thinks a glass of Mille and a peanut butter sandwich Is a meal. Recently he was diagnosed with mild asthma and sticker shock from an inhaler had him thinking my suggestion to give up dairy wasn’t a bad idea.  Milk was the first hurdle as he has not been happy with any of the milks I have come home with.  I finally got to this and he latched right on. Said more than anything else the texture was spot on. He is happily slurping it down and thankfully he prefers the original so I don’t have to buy another kind when I want to make soup.

There are some great powdered broths I could speak to but this paste is beyond fabulous!  I use this freely in soups and broths and no meat eater family or friend is the wiser. Hands down the best flavor ever. Accept no substitutes!

This was a real find in vegan world for me.  I grew up on the dairy sprinkles from a can and this is a serious improvement. Probably my favorite cheese substitute.  My usage picked up when I made dill pickle grilled cheese recently (with FYH Gouda, of course) and the recipe called for mayo mixed with parm and dill for the outside grilled part of the bread. Be still my soul it was good. I now just toast bread, add butter and sprinkle this on the top. Carb-e Diem, friends!!!

I remember the days I thought I couldn’t live with out cheese.  Whatever.  I’m mostly over it but there are a few things I really like cheese for.  Reubens, some Mexican dishes. And I’m not gonna lie, I still love a cheese dip. Anyhoo, I’ve tried them all and they continue to improve. My current go to, and keep coming back to, is FYH Gouda. It isn’t cheddar, it isn’t mozzarella. It’s the flavor missing in between and they nailed it. It’s my go to when I think I want a piece of cheese or a cheese addiction that doesn’t compete.

This was a new item on sale in our local coop. I seldom buy prepackaged food but making Indian isn’t my specialty and I was hungry for it. I was very pleasantly surprised by this!   The flavor was quite good. I got the brown rice package with it (shown in the pix) and it was a perfect combo. My husband, who as a rule doesn’t usually care for Indian food even liked it. If you think ketchup is spicy this will have more than enough heat for you.  But if you like heat you will want to add your own. They also cooked up in 90 seconds in the microwave which was a huge bonus.  The ingredient list looked pure without anything that shouldn’t be there also. I will be back for more!

I’m a midwestern white girl so most Asian folks look at me sideways when I talk about my deep love and affection for green papaya salad.  But I’m a devotee x 10. It is almost impossible to find on a menu sans fish sauce. But Lucky Lotus has it made to order.  I gave them my recipe for vegan fish sauce and with that addition now my world is complete! I have discovered the best Green Papaya Salad ever!!! (Affectionately referred to as GPS). You know this is good stuff because my white girl friend, meet eating friend who hails from deep, deep Southern Texas is now also a huge  fan. And she had both versions and said the vegan kind is far superior.  Woo hoo!

David’s Cracked Black Pepper Sunflower Seeds

I’m not gonna lie.  I love salty foods. I was resistant to these but in desperation on a road trip I found these at a gas station and am not full on addicted, complete with spit cup for seeds in the car. I’m amazed at how many products of this type, especially sunflower seeds, have dairy.  This brand does not.  I have had other brands but this is my favorite. Consistent quality.  Good size seeds. Pepper flavor but not mouth numbing.  Color me addicted!

Hellman’s Vegan Mayonnaise

I found this in Bonaire at the Dutch-based grocery store. Never seen it in the USA. It was great visual and functional substitute that worked in all mayo ways (spread, mix as a binder, etc). It wasn’t my favorite vegan mayonnaise (but I’m kind of a snob). But I would totally buy it again over any mayonnaise substitutes that taste like Miracle Whip (I hate that flavor). Hellman’s was always the best when I still ate dairy tho so I’m thrilled to see them making this move and not surprised they are doing it well. I hope they keep up the good work.
