Han Kuk Mi

I used this nutty, chewy, and ever-so-slightly sweet #rice to make heukmi bap, which achieves its rich purple color through a mix of white and black grains. I’m sort of struggling with how to review this bag, though. The rice turned out well, and ordinarily it would be an easy five stars, but a word of caution: I’m fairly certain this batch, lot no. 112421, was infested with tiny little bugs (maybe weevils?) I only noticed them because there was an unusual amount of debris floating in the water after soaking. It happens every once in a while (they got my steel-cut oats last time) and I’ll only be out $5 or so, but I’m conflicted because on the one hand I abhor food waste, but I also don’t want to eat bugs. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be gratefully received.

berryveganplanet Yum! Is this the same as black rice? I make a rice pudding with black rice! I should make one of these days. It’s been awhile 😋😉🌱2 likesReply
kyu I love rice pudding — that sounds really good! You’ll have to share your recipe sometime :-) I think it’s a type of black rice; it’s a glutinous variety that gets pretty sticky when cooked1 likeReply
