Review of Calrose Rice - Calusa Rose by tina360

I usually buy plain, generic-brand long grain rice, simply because it's cheapest. But I decided to try a new rice with a smaller grain size so it would be more sticky. Calrose rice is a medium grain rice from California and it fulfills my "sticky" requirement. I used a mold to make a kitty in the last picture. It looks funny because I sprinkled it with dulse, but it held its shape well.
The first time I made this rice, I followed the instructions on the back. Unfortunately their method didn't work for me because it was crunchy! I had to add more water and increase the cook time.

I got this at Walmart for just under $5, making it almost $1/lb, which is not a bad deal. It was cheaper than the sushi rice and I think this would make a good substitute for sushi rice if you are budget conscious or can't find sushi rice.
