I got my a** handed to me online a few months ago for voicing my support. I was even told I should step down from my sanctuary. Great times.🫠

I know there are so many disagreements amongst activists and vegans on the matter. This wouldn’t be something I’d personally try, as I have never eaten meat and don't plant to start. Many see lab grown meat as supporting the notion that humans need to eat meat to live happily and healthy, and I completely agree with that and understand that view. BUT, with that understanding and agreement, the reality is meat consumption, and the human diet is so very cultural and has so many factors. Humans are creatures of habit, and habits are hard to break. This CAN be a step towards total liberation. If someone who can not let go of meat has the option of eating meat that won’t enslave, abuse and slaughter billions of animals, I will support this.🌱👐

vikas For me the only point of contention is that nearly all of these products have been made using fetal bovine serum to grow the cells, which involves brutally extracting an unborn fetus from a pregnant mother cow. Thanks to this industry, the cost and demand of this serum has gone up many times in the last few years. There are also claims (I don’t know what to believe) about cultivated meat production being more energy and water intensive, which if true would mean this technology is being marketed untruthfully to people as a more sustainable approach to meat. 6 likesReply
lizmaselli Ickk. How they promote it here is that it's a biopsy done once and not a continuous thing at all. 4 likesReply
lizmaselli I also see a lot of vegans wanting this for their pets food. Most of my friends have vegan or vegetarian dogs, but their cats aren't and they always talk about the guilt. But again if it's a continuous process extracting fetal cells. 😔 4 likesReply
ericaeroica Sono d"accordo con te, visto che l'alternativa è quella della macellazione. 1 likeReply
beckyyy I have no interest in consuming it myself but I will be so happy when the day comes that I can feed my cats food that doesn’t come from factory farmed animals. 2 likesReply
cloudyaquilegia Thank you Liz for your gentle words. I really appreciate people like you, who know how important it is to help and protect our beloved animals (all of them), but still try to be understanding and comprehensive towards other people who have a different opinion. I think that dialog and peaceful communication are the way to go to show how much animal lives and well-being matter, and not fight and accusations, which create that big hate against veganism that comes from people feeling attacked and unconsciously guilty (otherwise they wouldn't even have to shout out their points of view).
That said, I now want to express a total different thought I have sometimes, because my stupid brain always imagines worst case scenarios... if the day we hope so much for arrives and there is no need for animal exploitation... wouldn't this utopia risk to turn in a horrible dystopia in which all farm animals have to be eradicated because there is no economic use for them anymore? I'm so sorry to even have this thought, but you see, my faith in humanity is kind of small...2 likesReply
lizmaselli I used to see veganism as black and white, and many call me an apologetic vegan because I will try to understand where a non vegan is coming from. Understanding and trying to comprehend is not the same as agreeing with them. But you'll never be able to change someone's mind unless you understand who they are. I think many vegans view it as they wouldn't be eradicated, but if we're not breeding them, there will just be much smaller populations. Many of these farm animals, their species suffer immensely, being genetically bred. Cornish Cross chickens for one have so many health issues that it would be better if they eventually ceased to exist. (Not meaning going and killing them, but letting their species peacefully go extinct) 3 likesReply
