Review of Kimbap - Trader Joe's by kyu
I was starting to think these kimbap would never show up at my Trader Joe’s! I’d been diligently checking the #frozen aisle each week for over a month; as someone who isn’t really on social media, I was totally unaware that they’d gone viral and were in shortage nationwide! When I found them, the store had set a limit of 3 per customer; perhaps I should have maxed out, as they’ve once again disappeared.
I really liked these rolls! They reminded me a bit of a similar Japanese food, futomaki. These are packed with well-marinated aburaage and a tasty variety of #vegetables, including spinach, carrots, gobo, and pickled daikon. Everything is well-seasoned with #sesame oil. I was pretty impressed by how well these rolls microwaved. I didn’t put them in for the full 2 minutes (either my #microwave is super powerful, or 2 minutes is too long,) but the #rice came out soft and springy — if someone else were to serve them to me, I’d never guess they had once been frozen. They’re super convenient for those #lazyvegan days when you want something quick but relatively wholesome.
All in all, quite nice! I would certainly get them again, once the supply has recovered. They are $3.99 for a tray of 9 slices. I don’t live as close to a #korean grocery store as I did when I was in college, but I believe they have several similar products — worth checking out if your Trader Joe’s is similarly depleted. #veganisnotscary… in fact it’s very much in demand!
