When I went to Jamaica for the first time some years back I was excited to go to the Ital places because they are likely vegetarian and they can always do vegan options. At a vegan Ital place I got to try ackee for the first time! It was really cool! When I returned to Toronto I was interested in trying to cook ackees but you cannot find these fresh. I gave up on searching and then recently I came across these canned ackees and I just had to grab them.
I added tofu in the mix here. Eating these at home just reminded me of Jamaica and the live reggae on the beach every night.😊
Ackees cannot be eaten uncooked so don't try that. (Much like rhubarb.)
