Brace yourselves, it’s almost time for Black Friday. again! 🤯

Reconsider what it really means for the environment especially since the majority of the items bought during the sales mostly end up in a landfill or are incinerated after a very short life 😒

Sales are not going to stop! (but we can) so take a deep breath and make a list for what you need to curb the splurge. Calling out Black Friday shoppers doesn’t help either.
It’s on all of us to individually take a step back, have a look at what we consume, and think if we really need to participate in the sales.

So what can you do instead?
Try to shop from local brands and support your communities at home. Brands like Swyft Lab, Allbirds, Lucy & Yak, Rei and Deciem are doing things differently and more sustainably this year.

Know any other brands that inspire the change around Black Friday?

danielgl Yesterday I saw a sign in our village: say no to Black Friday and say yes to Beach Clean up 25/11. What a great idea to actually do something to counter the effects of Black Friday!! https://cleanoceanproject.org/

Also, thank goodness that Giving Tuesday is right around the corner, a day to give to our favorite causes including @abillion10 partners!! 💚19 likesReply
greenwaffle Any brands like that in Poland? All I can share are local Christmas markets - some even specialise in natural, handmade items like clothing, bags, candles, food or jewellery. Besides, when you actually see the creator at the stall, you can be quite sure the things were made ethically. Furthermore, you can exactly ask where the materials come from and if a thing is vegan. Despite the whole Black Friday/Week frenzy, I hope everyone has a great time looking for and preparing gifts.3 likesReply
fionareid I’ve seen a few brands here. Clothing brand Finisterre do Blue Friday, swapping discounts for donations, so when you buy something over the Blue Friday weekend, they donate to a UK charity called Level Water that provides swimming lessons for kids with disabilities. And I noticed yesterday that a homewares/interiors brand called Dowsing & Reynolds are donating 100% of net profits over the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend to a UK charity called NAE (National Energy Action), supporting people facing fuel poverty this winter. Both brilliant initiatives. Reply
gingersaint Since I embraced minimalist lifestyle black fridays or any other sales do not attract me anymore. I only look up for deals on pantry stuff or if I really need THAT thing in particular 7 likesReply
teresa62 Conosco il Rhea cosmetici (marchio vegan ora in black friday)Reply
saechsine Just today I heard about a German fashion label that produces fair fashion and stands up against big discount campaigns and Black Friday, even though they themselves are not doing well financially at the moment. Read more here: https://archive.ph/WVghDReply
saschazelf In the Netherlands there's a chain store that closes all their shops on black friday and they send their staff off to do environmental volunteerwork for the day and encourage customers to do the same (can't come up with the name of the shops right now).3 likesReply
