MOST SHOP-BOUGHT ORANGES ARENT VEGAN.
But why?
First of all.. E-904. Shellac, from insects. You’d think a bag of oranges you pick up from the store are vegan/vegetarian, but obviously not. They use it to add a shine to the fruit. I don’t know about you, but I could eat an orange without the need for it to be shiny.
Second, E-914, this is vegan but it’s basically ethylene polymer made from petroleum. There is concerns about toxicity when this is consumed long-term.
I didn’t even realise they used E-904 (shellac) to wax oranges. Why can’t we just have the natural fruit as it’s self?
Will now be looking for unwaxed oranges..

natalinkal Omg this is disgusting! I have just recently started to look for unwaxed oranges as I needed them for an orange polenta cake and it is almost impossible. Such a horrible waste! @andreadal 2 likesReply
doped I know! I can’t seem to find any so far. Why can’t they leave the fruit as is grown .. Reply
