I met Peanut while volunteering at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue in early 2019. What is this red footed tortoise that is native to South America doing here in Singapore, across the entire Pacific Ocean?! A victim of the illegal wildlife trade, ACRES takes Peanut in and gave him/ her a space in their tortoise sanctuary in our land-scared Singapore.

I learn to take things slow as I watch Peanut’s meticulous steps. Does he/ she know what is going on in the world?

We don’t have farm animal sanctuaries/ rescue in Singapore and ACRES is our closest sanctuary that respects all animal lives (cruelty-free living education, plant-based food advocacy). They respond to injured wildlife all across our island nation (poisoned pigeons, reptiles, etc). I hope people living in Singapore can be more patient and understand the difficulties of being a wildlife rescue officer/ educator/ vet for an NGO.

Here’s my story for the #weeklywins and I hope to dedicate this to the amazing team at ACRES :)
