rocketjet I’m volunteering at a Galgo and a Podenco rescue in Spain for 3 months. I come 5-6 days/wk and am utterly amazed at their transformations…from terrified/withdrawn to trusting/loving! Sometimes within 4 days! It warms my heart. 2 likesReply

vegjon The first sanctuary I visited was Friends in the UK. It was the first time I came face to face with a sheep. I was sitting on a picnic blanket about to eat and the sheep came up to my girlfriend and me and wanted to be petted. Just like a dog would! I had heard that all animals have feelings and a sense of self and tried to live in that way, but after this moment I didn't need to try. I knew it as a fact. It shifted me down a different path. Who's to say if I would have been able to go this long without that kind of evidence. It's been almost 10 years now that I'm vegan and don't expect anything different in future. 1 likeReply

1mostlyvegan I've visited several small sanctuaries and shelters over the last couple years and got to meet some wonderful dogs, pigs, and even some birds (like owls and bald eagles). I already wanted to work in reacue, but seeing the rescued animals first hand and how much love they were getting really helped to solidify it. Now it's my dream to work in rescue and I'm continuing to learn more about it through social media and friends who work in that field already.Reply

bethhhhhhj I visited helpaws in st lucia and it was so amazing. I follow them on social media and through donations have been able to big an even bigger shelter for their rescue animals. They rescue dogs from the streets of Saint Lucia. They are amazing. They then fly the dogs you Canada and United States for adoption. 1 likeReply

convicti0n back at my friends farm in alabama she has a warthog, 3 bunnies, and 3 spider monkeys in the same enclosure. they all played together and were very friendly with one another. the weather was bad so we had to move the animals into the indoor enclosures. she grabbed the warthog first, asking me to film a video of her doing so, which i did. not paying attention, i didn’t close the gate so the 3 monkeys escaped and climbed on top of the roof of their outhouse 🤣 we got the 2 down very easily, but the third wanted to give us a run for our money. we got them all within 10 minutes, but it was the funniest thing ever. 🐵 so grateful for all of my monkey memories. chachka I support A Home for Hooves the first & only Farm Sanctuary in Canada to be accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries & it’s home to the most dedicated & inspiring team of volunteers. It’s so inspiring the amount of work & efforts the entire team out into caring for farm & abandoned animals. I was so moved & impressed by them that I’ve been a monthly sponsor for several years now & I they moved me to advocate for animals & vegetarianism at every opportunity! #weeklywins 1 likeReply

livewithintegrity I volunteer at Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary in Sico, OR about once a week. It is run by an amazing couple that work with very little compared to the more widely known sanctuaries. I started going in July of last year. I was vegan a year at that point but I felt I just had to do more, so I found the Lighthouse. They have over 200 animals they care for; pigs, goats, sheep, cows, horses, chickens, a donkey and a mule. My therapist says it seems it's been good for my soul. I have an extra soft spot for Gandolf the donkey 😊 I have a 12 year old son that has recently started volunteering there also. This is huge for him because he is autistic and has some sensory issues which has made it difficult for him to handle being dirty, but his love for the animals has helped push him out of his comfort zone. He has been going with me regularly now for about a month. He even went vegetarian and is making his way to the vegan side.

athoucha I have been a volunteer for 8 years in the kennel of the town where I live in Italy, my eldest satisfaction is seeing how their fear changes and the best thing is when they find a good adoption, that repays you for the effort although the love and gratitude you receive from them is much more. I collaborate when I can with a small amount of money with the Gaia Sanctuary in Spain where they cure and care for so many animals exploited by farmersReply
