Today, I am talking about salt. Salt is a very humble element and yet delivers great flavours to all the food you add it to. It brings out the dish you are cooking.

What are these additives
Bleach is a common chemical added to whiten the thing you add into.
Anti-caking agent is added to make salt comes out nicely from the salt shaker. Otherwise, it will clump together when store at room temperature overtime. To prevent that from happening, anti-caking agent is added to the salt.
What do these mean
Many of us are conditioned to see salt as white and nothing less than that. We didn’t question what could have been added to achieve its whiteness.
Think Bleaching your yellowish white shirt to restore its whiteness.
Think about the bleach in toilet cleaning solutions to kill bacteria and whiten the dirty toilets tiles and toilet bowl.
Now, think about the bleach in your salt…It just contains a much lesser quantity of bleach in it than the bleach in toilet cleaner.
Thinking about bleach, we will wear gloves to protect our hands from direct contact with the strong chemical.
Now the question is: who determines what quantity is alright for humans consumption? 1% or 5%?
To me, any percentage is not good. Why?
Fundamentally it is a chemical
Secondly, it is an additives added into food. It doesn’t occur naturally in the food itself
Thirdly, there are great products readily available in the market, for example sea salt, that respects the nature of food and originality. Some people called such food Whole Food.
How this affect me
Previously, I would get very upset and emotionally charged. I couldn’t understand and always question how human beings can do harm to another human beings. In this case, by adding chemicals into food.
Nature always provide us with food in the most simplest state. When we add this and that preservative or additive, we change the originality of the ingredients. Let us respect nature and what she provides us.
Instead of turning to cheap additives, let us study more of plants 🪴, their properties and strengths and use them to better our health.
What idea one person has come up
I have been to a restaurant that added rice grains to the salt to prevent the salt from caking in the shaker. What a brilliant idea!
We just need to be creative to solve a problem, instead of adding anti-caking agent, which in itself is a problem. Solve a problem while creating another. It is a lose-lose deal.
How this change my writing
Previously, my writing explored products that I would not buy for my children and the reasons behind. I would go into depths to explain the chemical added into food.
It takes thrice as long as to write such article than to focus on writing on products that I love and bought for my children!
Talking about focusing on the good and positive, it definitely takes much less effort than than being negative and I experience so much more joy writing about the products I love ❤️
What is in for you
