I needed chocolate to make Date Bark, so I went to Metro to get some. I purchased this Baker’s product simply for its absence of dairy. I really didn’t want unsweetened chocolate, but all the other chocolate choices contained dairy. So I chose this one. It costed $4.49.

On its own, it doesn’t tasted very good (to me). But after melting it (with a little coconut oil), spreading it on the layers of ingredients and freezing it, it tasted even better!

The first time I made this recipe, I used vegan chocolate chips. This time, I used this vegan baking chocolate. I thought the date bark tasted slightly better with the baking chocolate than with the chocolate chips. I will definitely make this recipe again and I’m indifferent about which chocolate I use. It tasted good either way.

The last photo shows a piece of the date bark. The ingredients were fresh dates, banana slices, peanut butter, millet, chopped cashews, marshmallows and melted unsweetened chocolate.

This baking chocolate is an excellent source of fibre and iron, providing 11% and 17%, respectively, of your day’s requirements in every serving.
