Review of vegan gyros at Avli Restaurant by cloudyaquilegia
Even if for our first honeymoon day my husband (🤩) and I planned to rest on the beach, in the end it was so windy we decided to explore a little bit this beautiful greek island where we are enjoying our first week as a married couple. We ended up on one of the highest points of the island, the cute town Zia. It is a totally touristic place, where there are more souvenir shops and restaurants than houses of local people. But, as there are so many tourists going there, and also thanks to the greek kitchen, the restaurants have vegan options. My connection was bad so I couldn't check the abillion map, but this restaurant, Taverna Avli, apparently a #familyowned business, advertised their #vegangyros on the blackboard on the street. Luckily I saw it, because the card they gave us didn't mention it at all 😅 I had this enormous portion (when I'll be back in Switzerland I won't eat for at least a week 🤣) with #fries, #hummus, #pita bread, #coleslaw salad and the vegan #gyros which I thought was made out of #seitan but probably is produced with #chickpeas. The food was ok, not the best I ever had (I was surely biased by the hummus and pita I had the evening before at the @sailsonkos taverna), probably prepared in big quantities for all the tourists coming for lunch and dinner to Zia. The bread was a bit too hard for my taste and the fries were without salt (something I noticed a lot in the restaurants here); the gyros had taste when eaten with the raw #onions , what I generally prefer to avoid because of the aftertaste 🙈
But as always I am really glad and thankful that vegan options are a thing *.* thank you for thinking of us!
