Have you ever tried Ethiopian soul food? OH BUT YOU MUST.
This is from Yeshi Buna. The owners fled Ethiopia to Australia as refugees two decades ago and established a much loved lil local joint in Moorooka, Brisbane. The family pours so much love into their menu and service and it shows.

I can't quite describe the explosion of flavours you get from this meal, it's another kind of umami altogether. Curries and pickled vegetables, all scooped up with those rolled pancakes on the end - the golden rule is NO CUTLERY. As a ritual everyone washes their hands first at a basin in the corner and it's actually so nice to eat more mindfully with your hands.
The plate contains Gomen (spinach simmered in spiced broth), Atkelt Watt (that good looking sautéed potato/carrot mix in sauce), Kik Alicha (like a green split pea curry with spices), Misir Watt (the centre lentil curry - SO, SO GOOD), and the rolled savoury pancakes.
I'm a repeat customer and I WILL CONTINUE TO BE A REPEAT CUSTOMER BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, YESHI BUNA #ethiopian #african #veganin2020
