Meet Pearson, an incredible rescued turkey! 🦃 Pearson’s journey began at the Cricket Hollow Zoo in Manchester, Iowa, where he endured a lifetime of neglect. Alongside over 400 other animals, he was rescued from absolutely deplorable conditions. Many animals were trapped in tiny, filthy cages, deprived of basic needs like drinking water and shelter. The suffering witnessed there was unimaginable, with some animals perishing from neglect and others resorting to self-harm out of sheer desperation. When Pearson first arrived at the Iowa Farm Sanctuary, he was timid and frightened, often hiding behind wheelbarrows and shrinking into himself. But then, something extraordinary happened! One ordinary day, Pearson stepped out from the shadows, stood tall, and unfurled his magnificent feathers for the first time. In that moment, time stood still as his caretakers and fellow residents marveled at his beauty and newfound confidence. Sadly, approximately 46 million turkeys are killed each year in the U.S. for Thanksgiving alone, often raised in the more troubling conditions than what Pearson escaped.
