Review of Meat Free Dumpling - Sajo by kyu
These were a great find! Dumplings are one of my principal comfort foods; I’ve always turned to them when in need of a quick, easy, and nourishing meal, whether that was an after-school snack in junior high or a late-night #lazyvegan bite in college. In truth, I’d feel like my freezer was missing something if it didn’t have at least one bag of #frozen #dumplings at all times.
These were some of the largest I’ve encountered (I could only fit 4 in my small frying pan) and they were absolutely crammed. The parcels were jam-packed with tender #fakemeat mince, chopped chives and cabbage, and glass noodle strands. I’ve noticed that many vegetable mandu have a somewhat mushy texture inside; while it’s by no means a dealbreaker, my personal preference is for a slightly more packed, solid filling. They are similar to the Assi vegetable dumplings, but significantly larger and with a higher filling-to-skin ratio.
Because of their size, I would recommend taking extra care to ensure that the inside is warmed through (even if the outside looks well-done.) Pan-frying and boiling both yielded good results; it looks like steaming or air-frying are also fine options. Overall, I really enjoyed these dumplings — they were satisfying, filling, delicious, and affordable. I’ll definitely look for them again next time I’m at H Mart! (Regular price: $2.99/bag)
