VEGAN

Brave Robot

Got this delicious nice cream on sale for a couple bucks. Tastes just like oreo ice cream. Knowing it didn't come from a place of animal torture & slaughter makes it a champ.

Perfect Day is animal-free and makes milk protein, yes this is whey, nutritionally identical to cow's milk but using flora fermentation. It is entirely cruelty-free and lactose-free. The company uses microbes and adds DNA sequences which instruct them to produce proteins and fats found in dairy milk. The microbes feed on sugars and other nutrients in big fermentation tanks and secrete the protein into the broth from which it can be harvested.

Many veg*ns dont consider this vegan because it's identical to (lactose-free) dairy. Many do, including me. It's #crueltyfree which to me is paramount to veganism. Regardless, opinions of what the hell vegan means and how to practice it are all over the place, which for a pragmatic person like myself is no bueno. Cruelty-free is more defined, understandable, reaches more animals like pollinators, and the needed modified form of veganism, the concept and movement of which is seriously flawed in so many ways that have increasingly aggravated me over the last few years to the point of, I don't think of myself as vegan anymore, I don't want to, even if I appear as one.

I'd bet what a lot of you especially dont want to hear, a vegan consumer who's not focusing on cruelty-free and sustainability throughout all their consumerism is gonna make a similar impact as the traditional mindless consumer. It's narrow-minded as well to just ever consider if something is made of plants. Deforestation, pollution, labor rights abuses, invasive animal control/testing, etc are far from exclusive to factory farms. We've all been prey to greenwashing- some learn and adapt, some dont.

I know this is nitpicky and perhaps impatient, as well as sounding critical of people who are learning and just trying to make positive changes in their life, which is great, yet proper education and keeping it real are important too. Figured I'd give a short summary of my true thoughts in one post, this one seemed fitting. Kudos and thanks if you read this far.
