Review of Nutty Buah Keluak at Whole Earth by amazinganne
If vegan vegetarian is hard to come by, Buah Keluack is even harder. As a nonya, this is a dish from my heritage that I super love. Whole Earth used to be the only restaurant serving this in vegan form. Now finally after 15 yesrs, a second restaurant that has it. It is a must order if I visit Whoole Earth. This is savoury with the black nut slightly bitter. I have a lot of fun digging out the meat from the nut. Tastes a lot better than it looks as I did a take away.

amazinganne Yes @babli they are really good, although they raised their prices & the standard dropped after they got the Michelin award somehow. 🤣😂Reply
babli The prices did seem steep. But I assumed because of the michelin stars😅Reply
amazinganne @babli 🌸Usually peranakan or nonya food is more expensive because of the ingredients in the rempah & the time taken to prepare it, e.g. 🌸blend each spice, fry them, set aside then cook for longer time, or 🌸buah keluak needs to be soaked overnight, examine each piece, break the shell, dig out the flesh, mixing the fillings & re-stuffing it etc. 🤣Reply
babli Seems like an extensive process worthy of appreciation. Thanks for sharing the details. It’s nice to know the effort and Ingredients that go into making a dish. 👍🏽🙏🏽1 likeReply
mybellyfats hi! which is the other restaurant which serves vegan buak keluack? :)1 likeReply
amazinganne @mybellyfats the other one is The Peranakan at Orchard.🧡 They used to serve non veg but have clear vegan options now. 🌸Can see my reviews of that too.💖 The owner & chef are very dedicated to bring true traditional cooking witg vegan options.🌸 Within a year I visited them, they have quadrapled the vegan options! 💖Reply
amazinganne @babli this other restaurant is also steep price too. Quality is also good because the cooking is authentic & traditional 🌸Reply
