VEGAN

Mission Foods

I swear I checked Abillion before picking this up but now I can't find the entry anymore. There are like 4 entries for the brand Mission so idk really 🤨 Just hope this is actually vegan-friendly; no animal allergen is listed, most of the E numbers are safe, but a few are "probably vegan" 😳

Anyway this is a decent #naan product. They suggest several ways to prepare this; I opted for the oven at 200 degrees, 10 minutes. I skipped the sprinkle-with-water step because I coated it generously with Nuttelex 😁 Perhaps I shouldn't have; the middle actually got rather crunchy 😬 Good option for an #indian dinner, resealable feature for the bag is thoughtful 🙂

elej91 In this case, there's the Indian vegetarian logo on it too, so that covers most bases already. (Yeah, there's a whole load of Mission listings here from different countries). -------------- Anyway, as a general rule, most of the additives that may or may not come from animal fats in other countries, you can almost bet they would come from palm oil here in Malaysia. a. Because of halal certification, using additives from animal sources is less likely (because foreign facilities may also handle non-halal/lard). b. Malaysia is pretty much at the centre of palm oil product processing, so the palm oil-based additives is cheap and accessible.3 likesReply
stevenneoh Thanks so much for the explanation! 🙂 Just waiting for vegan/vegetarian labelling to become more common among Malaysian producers tbh 😐 3 likesReply
elej91 You have this weird intersection here where chinese 'vegetarian' products may contain eggs, but don't normally contain dairy (since it's not really part of chinese cuisine), while indian 'vegetarian' won't contain eggs, but will likely contain dairy (for dishes).4 likesReply
