Review of Gochujang - O’food by verypotato
Being Japanese doesn’t necessarily mean being familiar with Korean ingredients, and this is my first time purchasing gochujang! (The “vegan” logo at the back was reassuring ✌️)
I googled a bit and gochujang seems to be essentially fermented rice and soy with red chili pepper (feel free to correct me if this isn’t correct!). It’s beautifully red, but is NOT as spicy as it seems. It has this deep rich flavor and a bit of sweetness. It does have tapioca syrup listed as the first ingredient, but I know that Korean red chili pepper has this sweetness unlike Chinese chili pepper, so that could play a role. So far I’ve used this for cauliflower wings and potato salad (there’s a type of spicy potato salad Japanese people eat) and liked the results ☺️ Can’t wait to use it for other meals like noodles, rice and more!
